Smith & Wesson is set to announce the latest addition to the M&P line: the Smith & Wesson M&P 22.  The new pistol is the same general size and shape of the company’s popular M&P line, but chambered in .22 LR, making for more affordable training and shooting.

Two models will be introduced: one with a 10-round magazine, and a second with a 12 round magazine.  Both models will have a 4.1″ barrel, and an overall length of 7.6″.  Weight is 24 ounces, unloaded.

The M&P22 has a Picatinny rail, reversible magazine release and an ambidextrous slide stop.  As is popular with many .22 rimfire pistols, the M&P22 has an external safety, in this case an ambidextrous thumb safety.
