The New Walther PPQ M2

Walther PPQ M2

The Walther PPQ first released in 2011 arrived in South Africa last year and immediately made itself noticed. Walther has been rather scarce in recent years and the new ones that were around, the P99 for example, were rather expensive. Then along comes the PPQ, an affordable, mid-size pistol that feels good in the hand and bears the legendary Walther name. Needless to say, they were quickly snapped up. Walther has since announced an upgrade to the original PPQ for 2013, dubbing it the PPQ M2.

The updated gun has the same features of the original PPQ with the exception that the ambidextrous magazine release levers (HK style) have been omitted and replaced by a thumb release push-button located behind the bottom of the trigger guard. For left-handed use the magazine release is reversible. This is obviously a result of Walther listening to their US customers are are accustomed to the push-button release. It’s necessary a bad thing though as many people here feel the same way about the levers, so this should make the PPQ appeal to a wider audience.  On the down side, apparently, the PPQ M2 magazines are not compatible with the original PPQ, so we assume the opposite also applies.

I’m not sure when we’ll be seeing these in South Africa, but check them out if or when they do arrive, you may be pleasantly surprised.
