Article: "Alec Baldwin Shot and Killed Female Cinematographer, Injured Director on Movie Set"
https://www.breitbart.com/entertainm...-on-movie-set/
A tragedy occurred on the set of the latest Alec Baldwin movie where the actor reportedly accidentally shot and killed a female cinematographer and injured the director due to a prop gun misfire.
“Alec Baldwin fired a prop gun on a set in New Mexico on Thursday, accidentally killing cinematographer Halyna Hutchins and wounding director Joel Souza,” reported Variety.
The tragic incident reportedly occurred on the Bonanza Creek Ranch set in Santa Fe, New Mexico, where Alec Baldwin was shooting his upcoming Western, Rust. Hutchins, who originally remained unidentified, died after being transported via helicopter to the University of New Mexico Hospital.
Director Joel Souza remains in emergency care after being transported by ambulance to Christus St. Vincent’s hospital.
The Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Office confirmed on Thursday that both Hutchins and Souza “were shot when a prop firearm was discharged by Alec Baldwin, 68, producer and actor.”
Sources told Deadline, which initially reported that the incident occurred when Baldwin reportedly “cocked a gun during a rehearsal, unaware that there were live rounds in it, hitting two people, a man and a woman.” Representatives for Baldwin, a rabid anti-gun demagogue, did not immediately respond to media requests for comment.
Hutchins was reportedly hit in the stomach while Souza was hit in the shoulder. No arrests or charges have been filed as a result of the incident, though the Sheriff’s office confirmed that the investigation remains “open and active.”

Re: Article: "Alec Baldwin Shot and Killed Female Cinematographer, Injured Director on Movie Set"
Who the f*** takes live rounds to a movie set and leaves them lying around, or leaves a loaded weapon lying around???
"A rabid anti-gun demagogue"...but he'll make money off movies containing gun violence...?

Re: Article: "Alec Baldwin Shot and Killed Female Cinematographer, Injured Director on Movie Set"
Yeah thats probably a second degree felony in the State of New Mexico? Please correct me if im wrong.
RIP to the deceased and condolences to their family.
And, Fuck you Alec Baldwin.
This is why we see such poor gun handling in movies, actors and directors alike dont know shit about gun safety.
This is why Keanu Reeves trained so damn hard for the John Wick series, SAFETY.

Re: Article: "Alec Baldwin Shot and Killed Female Cinematographer, Injured Director on Movie Set"
From the flaky description have to wonder whether it was a single shot that struck two people or if he fired more than once. The hypocrisy of making millions off portraying firearm use while being 'rabidly anti gun' seems about right for the rules for thee but not for me crowd.

If that was an actual prop gun used in the movie, with live ammunition, on set, unsupervised, the armorer is probably going to take the fall.

I think the harsh words against Alec Baldwin are uncalled for at this stage. He was doing a job with tools given to him. We don't know all the facts yet. He is going have some heavy stuff to deal with. Condolences to everyone involved in this terrible accident.

I have to echo this - the prop guys or who-ever got and supplied the guns should get a PK - and then be held accountable - accessory to manslaughter. And the actor as well - not checking before handling the firearm - also needs a PK.

Agree with that but stand by my comment re the hypocrisy of advocating against and vilifying guns and their owners while using them to make buckets of money.

Understand that, but it's hardly the point. There's a lot to condemn, but let's wait for a few more facts to come to light.

And for a reason: it's his fault unless the loaded gun was planted there by a third party.
I think Alec Baldwin is an ass. That aside, his job is to act and rely 100% on the armourer. This may come as a shock to most people: gun safety rules don't apply when making movies. When you shoot a scene, or rehearse for one, there will be a large bunch of people behind the camera right in front of you. That's where you point your gun and fire blanks. Pointing at people. I know, sounds bad to us but this is how they operate in the movie world and how about a shootout? Yes, you point the gun at people and fire blanks when making movies.
There's a good reason why so many productions are nowadays using airsoft non-guns and add muzzle blasts and flying brass in post.

Any news on the firearm used?
It’s a western movie, so must be something old.

Usually reproductions by Uberti or some other reproduction maker. The real old guns are way too expensive for movie production rentals.

No I get that but I was merely wondering about the ballistics of the weapon, it cant be AR-type ballistics, it's either some type of winchester rifle reproduction or colt pistol reproduction, which also leads to the question why they would have live ammo for that on set.
Only two options, someone planted it or the armorer uses it for normal shooting as well.

Not according to Mr. Reeves, he told he trained so the scene would look right. To my knowledge they didn't use functioning firearms during the sets.

Re: Article: "Alec Baldwin Shot and Killed Female Cinematographer, Injured Director on Movie Set"
My brother is in the movie business and he reckons the actors have FA to do with the guns other than pointing them and pulling the triggers. Protocol on the sets he has worked on is that they are handed to them from the armourers in the firearms unit and taken back from them immediately after the take. The actors are no more involved with the guns than they are with sound and lighting. Also told me that on every handover the guns are independently checked by two armourers to verify their state. No idea if his experience is industry standard but nonetheless whatever went wrong here, it must have been pretty fundamental.

Re: Article: "Alec Baldwin Shot and Killed Female Cinematographer, Injured Director on Movie Set"
I've heard very much the same: they will not give the actor any responsibilities beyond the acting itself for liability reasons. The guy I bought my AR-15 SP1 from is a professional movie armourer and pyrotechnic working at this moment in the USA and he's been a good inside source for information on the subject.

Re: Article: "Alec Baldwin Shot and Killed Female Cinematographer, Injured Director on Movie Set"
I was on a set once in South Africa. Was invited by the person supplying the Firearm on set. Cassie Carstens.
Anyhow those handguns could not shoot a Live Round. The barrels were modified to work with the blanks used.
So in this case a real firearm was used not even one dedicated as a modified one for film use. And it was loaded with live rounds.
Also I dont see how Alec is blamed so quickly. As he is merely the actor given a tool by supposedly qualified staff to use. The fault is with who gave him the tools.

Meh... so I don't think he gets to skate so easily.
He's a professional performer who is using a firearm as part of his professional career. There MUST BE some kind of responsibility that attaches as a result. I would be horrified if this laisezz faire attitude was standard or even common practice. If, indeed, he is just a dumb beast he should have been more strictly kept.
Contrast this with Will Smith's behavior in the famous gun safety clip. These are supposedly sentient beings. They should act like it.
This is why we teach kids at pre-school to look right/left, look left/right, look right/left again before crossing a road. We don't expect them to be able to drive, but we don't want them run over either.

Re: Article: "Alec Baldwin Shot and Killed Female Cinematographer, Injured Director on Movie Set"
What Baldwin is arguably tantamount to Involuntary Manslaughter, according to the New Mexico penal code. He could face up to 18 months in prison if found guilty, although probation is also possible.

Re: Article: "Alec Baldwin Shot and Killed Female Cinematographer, Injured Director on Movie Set"
The Hollywood cabal will close ranks and sanitise the incident.
-
Re: Article: "Alec Baldwin Shot and Killed Female Cinematographer, Injured Director on Movie Set"
Here we have yet another negligent discharge of a firearm by a boneheaded cast or crew member.
One would think the deaths of Bruce and Brandon Lee would have led to rigid safety protocols concerning the use of firearms on-set.

No, not really, the responsibility is with the armourer 100%, waivers have a real legal meaning in the USA. You must know this but seem hate too much the dick for a man called Alec Baldwin to realize it. The will Smith clip is from a very different situation, the guns were on the table, not given to an actor by the armourer. Will Smith haven't had any problems pointing people with guns and pulling the trigger when filming his movies, when the situation is controlled by professionals. Double standards or trust? Nice straw dog anyways.

I'm thumb-sucking this, but I'd guess he shot them with a shotgun. Most probable way he hit two people with a single shot. Doesn't need the barrel plug to work. Option B is a very powerful revolver that overpenetrated.
-
Re: Article: "Alec Baldwin Shot and Killed Female Cinematographer, Injured Director on Movie Set"
Option C two quick shots with a single action revolver. Using the press and hammer-slap with the trigger down technique you may send two rounds before realizing there was felt recoil. But we will know when we know.

The irony of a rabid anti-gunner killing another person with a gun because his greed exceeds his conviction.

Looking for more detail on this - some interesting numbers:
Quote:
The Alec Baldwin shooting on the set of Rust is the ‘43rd fatal shooting on a US film set since 1990'According to an estimate by the Associated Press (AP), there have been 43 fatalities on American film sets since 1990, with another 150 actors or crew members left with life-altering injuries as a result of accidents, often the result of botched stunts staged on location

Pretty brutal. I'm pretty sure the guy is going to be fighting demons for the rest of his life. Love him or hate him, he was doing what he does - his job.

Where in the script does it say point prop gun at the cinematographer and director and pull the trigger?

Re: Article: "Alec Baldwin Shot and Killed Female Cinematographer, Injured Director on Movie Set"
I think too little is known to understand what happened and why there was a loaded firearm without proper supervision on the set. Doubt he was shooting blanks considering the damage caused. But had he not been such a rabid anti-gunner maybe he would have followed the most basic safety rules.

It wouldn't say that. But how, for example, would you film a 'full frontal' of the gunslinger if he wasn't at least pointing the gun at the cinematographer? Director would be nearby to get the framing of the scene and wara wara pony tail stuff. They do what they do on the assumption that the expensive gun management jonnies have done their job. Me, I found it near impossible to aim my thrice checked empty field gun at my mate when he was trying to help me diagnose my pitiful wing shooting performance.

More info here. Several accidental discharges, people concerned about safety on set. What is live ammo doing on a film set in the first place?
