It's a genuine society. Benefit depends on department, to be honest. Definitely a benefit on CV's and for post grad applications.
Golden key is legitimate. It is something nice to have on your resume but a lot of people are invited to join the society. I think it’s become more of a scheme to try and get as many people to join. I’m not sure about the network opportunities- they state that they do exist but I’ve yet to see them occur.
I don’t want to seem harsh, but when I went to an interview once, they were more concerned about the fact that I was invited rather than actually joining.
Like I said though, if it’s something to put on your CV and it’s something the other person does not have, you might as well have it.
I have been a member since 2008. Haven't paid them anything. They don't have a chapter where i am so i'm not very active.
I've had candidates put the fact that they are a member on their CVs. I couldn't care less.
You get that invite if you are part of the top 15%of your class/degree.
It is not really beneficial, just something nice to have. The TUKS chapter usually sends out invitations to various events/seminars/workshops.
You also rarely get invited to study abroad... but usually in China or Australia
For some extra money you also get a nice golden pin.
Used to be exclusive and a great network, by invitation only and not commonly advertised. Now it seems to be just another marketing and virtue signalling group.
Once you get your degree you seem to be 'targeted' for membership.
All they actually seem to want to do is to part you from your money.
No 'real' benefits of being a member as far as I can see.
He can put on his CV that he was invited to join due to his marks. I made the mistake of joining, paid and got zero value in return.
