Interesting concept. Definitely could provide some advantages, but some cons as well. AK users... your opinions?

Was that problem not solved with the Galil/R-series? :g:
It is a nice to have but remember, that would make side mounted optics a non starter as the charging handle will foul with the mount.
I'm thinking the L-side charging handle could cause problems w/the operator himself, like making violent contact on his person(depending on his stance) or getting caught on gear; especially when new to this bolt system. Left-handed AK shooters might know more about this.
I dont neccessarily agree that it will foul on gear etc as I believe it is marginally shorter than that of the right hand side handle. You are really going to have your gear pressed up against the receiver for that to happen.
I see there are a couple guys in the States doing a similiar conversion to the Saiga 12's.
They also somehow manage to change the mag well to seat the mags like an AR, straight in, rather than the normal cant of the AK magwell\mag

meh, if you want an AR get an AR.
Exactly. Like you're going to encounter one of those things out in the field.
W/the exception of synthetic furniture, I keep my '47 configured purist. That's what your going to see in my jungle so that's what I train on. My '74 is blinged out a bit. Let's face it, a '74 is just "AK Light." If you can maintain on a '47, a '74 feels like a cap gun. I was thinking about upgrading the bolt on my 74 to one of these. I cant find one made w/the vertical, Galil-type charging handle.
