No laws to protect SA's vulnerable groups, the study, from Hate Crimes Working Group

This part of the article is really worrying.

The problem starts with them assuming a particular person or group to be vulnerable based on a single aspect of their identity. It doesn't examine whether they are vulnerable or not, it ignores the agency and capability of the individual, automatically putting them on par with those who are incapable of defending themselves. Then we have the issue of enacting laws to 'protect' these individuals/groups... look at the UK or Canada to sell how that is working out. Laws of this nature don't protect, they punish. They punish those offering criticism (fair or otherwise) and those enjoying and practicing their rights to freedom of speech, religion, etc.

Assault common and Assault GBH, Attempted murder, Murder, Rape, Attempted rape, Indecent assault, Intimidation and a shitload of other things are already illegal. Alternatively it can be argued that there are already laws in place to protect EVERY person from the above mentioned crimes.

Despite all the "protection" our current laws provide, people still get murdered, raped, assaulted etc.
How will an additional law that gives the same "protection" , but specifically to a so-called minority / special snowflake group, actually protect that group?

Simple answer: It wont.

What it will do is provide leverage to the thought police. And allow them to prosecute and intimidate the public for having opinions about things.

With the current level of crime in SA. All South Africans are vulnerable even tourists. You dont have to be a specific group. You basically vulnerable inside the SA borders.
