It's a David vs Goliath thing but I'd avoid anything Shopify if I can help it.

My advise, download https://grandnode.com/ and host it yourself, I wrote a plugin for payfast for it, plugin doesn't support all of payfast, but does support basics, that way at least you are in control...

Three things stopped us.
1) The usurious transaction fees.

We have run Opencart for 8 years now. Zero issues.
Any other votes for Opencart?
The wife runs some Shopify sites. Always open to competition, especially after all this crap.

Opencart works well, but it is time consuming to set up. Once set up, it will run like a dream.

Magento is another option. It's been a while since I've used it but at the time it was slightly more expensive than most other options.
Someone check my math; I seem to recall Afrihost offering a hosted Magento option as well.

Just slightly off-topic, on this issue of providing a shopping cart and hosting a service. A small business with a substantial online shopping component is very much at the mercy of the service provider and it's hosting service. Basically they can kill you if they don't like you.
In this case a corporate giant has dictated the rules, changed them and pulled the rug from under the feet of a good number of these mom-and-pops , take it or leave it as they say.
Most small businesses need to use these tech giants because they don't have the capacity to maintain the up-to-the-minute cybersecurity required for online transactions, back-end IT stuff etc
So what to do. Where to find a provider who is product-agnostic, puts your brand first, and if the relationship sours for any reason would be amicable to move your cart to another provider in a non-disruptive, seamless manner?
