Re: BOTTLED WATER - SAFE SHELF LIFE
The biggest problem is bacterial growth those flakes are bacterial biomass literally billions of little microbes in a flake. They could be pathogenic or not but cant take the chance. Boiling And ozone will not sanitize enough as it only lowers the amount of bacteria and does not eliminate it and are also notoriously bad at eliminating bacterial spores. Only one cell is needed to overtime spoil te water. Most sanitizers are oxidizers and only work for a short time period while the reaction happens. To store water for a longer period of time look at a heavy metal sanitizer it keeps the water “ toxic” for microbes but safe to drink. Look for something based on copper, zinc, silver and nickel. You can also treat allready spoiled water with a heavy metal sanitizer to increase water safety

There are a couple of priducts like that on the market.
In terms of copper sulphate use at about 2-3mg/l not more.
Thanks, and is pool chlorine of any use in this application?

The human body only knows how to handle things it’s been exposed to previously. Since this is a survival thread, some must realize in emergency situations people will often have to drink water they are not sure of. We already have a gazillion microbes living in our body, its not the devil, the difference comes in what is irritable or poisonous. You can take two different people, have them drink the same water, one will get sick and the other not, exposed to all the same things.
Survival is all about prepping, if you prep water then drink it after some time and see what it does, if you don’t test it then you will never know, and if there is a problem then why wait for an emergency situation? I mean a year is a very short time, just store water and see what it does.

Go to your local home brew shop and buy a no-rinse sanitizer or sterilizer. It's cheap and works wonders, and you can use it on everything. Milton's baby bottle sterilizer also works wonders.
