Re: .44 Mag 300 Grain cast
Thanks Burner
Useful data! What was recoil like?:g:
I agree with you that 1200fps on a 300 grainer should be good for most applications - you planning on hunting with them?
Re: .44 Mag 300 Grain cast
Hi Sweet , to be honest the recoil was not to bad at all, quite comfortable, or maybe I am just a recoil Junkie :st:
Yes I would like to use them for hunting just need to play with and tweak them a bit. Will update this tread once i have some more info.
Re: .44 Mag 300 Grain cast
Hi Burner, its been a while :). I loaded 18gr S265 with Frontier 300g CMJ for 1180fps. Recoil is good fun.
I'm still waiting for my new cylinder from Mark but am still enjoying my SBH. I'm sticking to lighter loads for now (12g S221 from the bastard batch 213, 1260fps).
Cheers
Dylan
Re: .44 Mag 300 Grain cast
Oh ja, that's with Lauries 255g swc.
Re: .44 Mag 300 Grain cast
Hey mokwepa, amaizing how guns differ from one another, here are my results Using S221 Batch 213 and a 250 grain bullet sized to .430
Bullets should have been 245 grains but cast from Wheel weight as lubed weighed in at 250grains (Lyman Mold)

No flat primers and no sticking cases
As for the 300 Grainers, they felt no heavier in recoil than the 250's but you need to bare in mind that they seat to the same depth
as the 245 cast, so i would assume that this could make a significant difference.
Data is for my gun and for use at your own risk.

Re: .44 Mag 300 Grain cast
Thanks for sharing the data, Burner.
What cases and primers are you using?
Sweet
Re: .44 Mag 300 Grain cast
On the 300 grain bullets I used win cases with Win Primers.
On the 245/250 grainers I used PMP cases with Muron Primers.
Cheers
Re: .44 Mag 300 Grain cast
HEy Guys, some more feedback on 300 grain cast bullets that I have been playing with, well I think that I have resolved the creep issue, I cut some cases back by 1.1 mm and managed what seems to be a decent crimp in the bottom groove, I will do some testing this weekend using 17.5 and 18 Grains S265. If it doesn't work out ok then the cases get trimmed down to 44 SPL.
Will provide feedback soonest.
Cheers
Re: .44 Mag 300 Grain cast
Excellent, Burner!
That is a very good idea, BTW - sort of tailoring your cases to the bullets, in such a way as to allow you to get a good crimp purchase.
Thanks for keeping us posted.
Re: .44 Mag 300 Grain cast
Hi Burner
Have been following your thread with interest. I have a 200 Hornady 300 gr XTP's and want to load to around 1200fps with S265.
Any suggestions/loads data you care to share after your session.
Kind regards
African
