Dealers Competency
Hi guys,
Do any of you know whether carbine competency is necessary to apply for dealers competency?
I would like to apply this week but cant get a definitive answer regarding this.

Re: Dealers Competency
Thanks kk
I have rifle, shotgun and handgun. Is this enough to apply for dealers? I heard that carbine is not needed but have also heard that it is. I have also heard carbine competency does not exist anymore?

Re: Dealers Competency
Manually operated rifle, self-loading rifle, shotgun and handgun are all required for dealer competence.
Once you have that competence it would be impossible to work in a dealer environment without coming into contact with one or the other of the classes of firearms for which you DON'T have competence so you need all 4.
Hand Machine Carbine (who it was that brain-farted THAT contorted name out is a closely guarded secret!) has fallen away. Maybe that's what you're referring to?"Always remember to pillage before you burn"

Re: Dealers Competency
Ok Vaughan, excuse my ignorance here. Are you wanting to deal in firearms as in buy and sell and store? I was under the impression that getting dealer status was a near impossible feat and that there were many legislative hoops to jump through. So to become a dealer all that is required is the 4 competancies??????

Re: Dealers Competency
No, it's a pre-requisite to be able to apply for a dealers licence - like Competency is a pre-requisite to applying for a firearms licence.

Re: Dealers Competency
Thread revived :)
Anyone done competency in Cape Town recently?
I am thinking of doing SLR and possibly Dealer competency.
If you've done it please share price and place.
Also a question - I did the others a few years back. Does one have to do the legal addition again?
Thanks
