The assault on Pelindaba
CBS - “Scott Pelley investigates the boldest assault ever on a facility containing weapons-grade uranium, a still-unsolved crime that could have had calamitous consequences.”
South Africa is the only country to have built nuclear weapons and then voluntarily dismantled them. Pelindaba is where South Africa's atomic bombs of the 1970s were developed, constructed, and stored. They were dismantled in 1990. In 2007 there was an armed raid on the nuclear research site.

To put it nicely, everyone from the government is working very sparingly with the truth. That and the stupidity coupled to it that makes them think they will be believed...
It makes me sad to think and know what we had and what will be left for my children.

If you can find a book called "Die Bom" by Nic Von Willich, it makes for very interesting factual reading on the whole SA nuclear program, from initiation until termination.

International regulations and regular inspections mean that it must be accounted for to the smallest unit (literally to the gram). South Africa is also not allowed to trade in nuclear material, therefore the material remains in the country under lock and key, and this is verified by independent inspectors periodically.
