Thank you gentlemen. I am super chuffed. Managed to get a secondhand deal on a Swarovski Z6 1-6 with rings for around 1/5 of what a new one would cost. Looking forward to mounting it on the rifle when the license comes through. Do any of you by any chance have load data for a 450 Rigby?

Sorry Adie, don't have load data, but I still like your rifle! You should be proud. How many people do you know with such a rifle? Live it and appreciate it....

Myself would develop loads with S365 as it is available again from time to time. I have no experience with 450 Rigby reloading or ballistics, but am of opinion that S385 type will be too slow for the larger bullet diameter in the Rigby case. .416 Rigby and S385 is the right combination.

The same reason why S365 is better suited to the .404 Jeffery than S385. Those with the clear and deep knowledge on the subject will be better able to answer, but with the bigger bore (Read more volume to be pressurized), the S 385 is too slow to "blow" the bullet efficiently out of the barrel. Case volume compared to combustion rate compared to volume of area to be pressurized.

Thank you sir! I am very proud. Wanted one for a while and don’t know of many men who have one, especially not at my age and stage. I am really excited to see what it can do this season.

I appreciate the information that you’ve shared as well as the reasons behind it. I agree S385 will not do the job. Do you think S355 would be better suited or a bit too fast? Thank you very much. Have a good one.

Here is some load data from bjinse who makes dzombos.

As usual use at your own peril

500 grain @ 2600 fps. Yo that is close to Wetherby territory. BOOOOOOOM.

Nose bleeds. Inside of cheecks raw against teeth. Blurred vision. Blue middle finger nail. Etc.

Sedate 500 gr @ 2200 fps is more than enough gun.

500 gr @ 2400 is serious enough gun.

@ 2600 fps… Well, mmm, I will not swear. Just say: It is not needed.

Never thought a Rigby in 450 can get there. Everyday something new.

Yeah, I actually bought some 500gr Dzombos from Bjinse as well as some 500 and 550gr woodleigh softs. A 500gr doing 2400 will probably be more than I can handle so I’ll have to work my way up to it. I see Norma had some 500gr woodleigh factory ammo doing 2500fp/s. Ouch! Ultimately I’d like to shoot some Dzombo 600gr solids nice and slow. However that will come with time. Also would like to check out Barnes’ offerings. Thanks a lot gents!
