    Default Winchester .416 Rem Mag.

I picked up my Winchester mod 70 in .416 Remington Magnum a couple of weeks ago but as I had 3 back to back hunts with international clients, I haven't had a chance to shoot it.

This morning, I loaded up some 410gr Frontier CMJ bullets and roughly sighted in an Aimpoint Micro and a Leupold 1.5-5x20 in qd mounts. I plan to use the Aimpoint for hunting and backing clients but want to use a scope for load developement.

A load of 69.0gr Riflex Blue (0.4gr below Somchem's start load) launched the Frontier bullet at 2240fps. This powder seems to be quite a lot faster burning than S341, which many believe it to be, in all the calibers I have tried it in.

Shooting standing over sticks this load shoots 3" groups at 100m. I am confident that the rifle will do better with proper hunting bullets and proper load development.

Recoil is stout but not punishing. The rifle has a decent trigger and fit and finish is good.

I'm not really a big caliber person, but that's a thing of beauty. Very nice mr TStone!

    Very cool!

I have a 458 Lott with that same aim point, was wondering about changing over to a scope and back, do you notice any change in zero?

Big bores are awesome, enjoy man!

    Exactly my sentiments.

I have a love for Winchester rifles. They are simple, but elegant.

On my .375 H&H there is occasionally a small change in poi but not enough to make a difference at 100-150m. I have not really tested this on the .416 but will.

Looks as though the wind was pumping, so 3 inches off sticks is good. Congrats with the "grootmeneer"

I have a Mod 70 270 Win sporter and the same rest as the one in your pic. Mine looks like an anorexic teenager in the same 'pose'.
