My Winchester .416 rem mag weighs 4.9kg with a Leupold 1.5-5x20 scope and a synthetic sling, so it is a little lighter than your .404. Seeing as the two are ballistic twins, I guess that with the same bullet weight at the same velocity, recoil should be very similar. With a 400gr bullet at 2260fps recoil from the .416 is stout but not punishing. Recoil for your current loads should be mild. For a big bore.

Great caliber , great hunting rifle, my only hunting rifle. I do have other calibers but use only the 404 Jeffery to hunt with. Open sights are extremely accurate , I use a Smidt & Bender 6x42 and it works great when hunting the scope .
I do not use a sling , I carry it in hand when I hunt..

Brass/bullets are readily available. It is a no nonsens , easy use rifle in the 404 Jeffery (.423) caliber.

Can hunt a warthog to an elephant with it. You will experience only great affection towards your 404 Jeffery..
