100%. And as an extra bonus for my kids they are allowed knives and guns at 'school'

:) I went to a Technical High School late nineties
During my time there made spice racks, paperweights,ninja stars, Braai Stands, Biltong Cutters, a few knives and a .22 Silencer.
I was graded one each as a school project with various technical aspects in mind.

That being Said I also remember SAP Searches being a yearly occurrence from Primary School.
It migrated from a "this is what terrorist weapons looks like" to a theme of "See Something Say Something"
Was usually an assembly presentation with the Search at the end.

Thinking back it does seem more like an admin ticking of boxes exercise.
