I have thoroughly enjoyed the Tikka rifles I've shot and their owners have all been highly complimentary. One particular African Hunter in .308 is an absolute clover leaf printer and as mentioned above they are very smooth.

I have only heard good things about the Tikka actions. They also make a great platform to change caliber if you re-barrel, as the action is a one size fits all, and can be adjusted for any cartridge length.

I still need to do some research on scopes. Perhaps a Zeiss 6-24x50 or similar.

With scopes, less is more. For hunting, 6-24 is overkill. A 3-9 is perfect for most hunting applications. A simple fixed 6x or 8x is not popular for fashion reasons, but will serve you best, as with experience, you can judge the distance by the size of the animal in the scope picture. Also, the more magnification, and the greater the range of magnification, will negatively affect the optical quality, so you will have to spend more to get the same clarity vs a low magnification scope. For hunting, I stick to 8x on the plains. I only ever go up to 12x when I am at the range and am developing a load. In that case more magnification is useful to fine tune a load.

The Swarovski z3 4-12 x 50 is a good buy at the moment.

You can't get a PRC then put max 12x scope on, that's just wasted potential

But you can't make biltong from paper or metal gongs!
