Pigeon shooting - what works best for rockies

My wingshooting mates and I have discussed this at length before and the consensus we reached was that from the farmers point of view the birds being scared away was pretty much first prize and that the total number killed on a day was largely irrelevant. That because an absent, or moving, bird can't eat and that even if we shot a 1000 birds on a farm in a day it would represent a tiny fraction of the remaining flock. The win for them is that there is a day where less eating happens.

A bit of feedback, it is a Gamo CFX, it has a gas ram conversion and a trigger upgrade, so accuracy is almost where a PCP is. I use the JSB heavy pellets that group the best in the rifle. So I guess I was hoping for a "magic bullet". I think I need to work a bit on my shot placement, and try to get more consistent with the head/neck shots. I was wondering if a slower .22 pellet would do the trick? I'll try the Jumbo's next time.
