Tsessebe Calf.
A tsessebe calf, top photo, and cow with calf, bottom. Known as a basterhartbees in Afrikaans, it is closely related to the blesbuck and bontebok. It is the fastest antelope in Africa. Its scientific name is damaliscus lunatis, the second part of its name refers to the shape of the horns and not to its, often strange, behavior.

Re: Tsessebe Calf.
Lekker pics as usual. Just realised that despite having been in a house in high school named for the animal I wasn't at all sure what it looked like. What is strange about their behaviour?

Re: Tsessebe Calf.
Well, they stand around looking silly, bobbing their heads up and down, blesbuck do the same thing and it is probably due to fly larvae hatching in their sinuses.
They are unafraid of humans to the point of being reckless, this make them almost embarrassingly easy to hunt.
Territorial males often stand on a high point to get a better view of their surroundings, seemingly oblivious of danger. Almost as if they trust on their speed, at the cost of all else, to get them out of harms way.

Re: Tsessebe Calf.
Are those ticks on the cow's shoulder?
