SMITH AND WESSON M&P OR WALTHER P99 .40S&W
This will be my first weapon and I'd be grateful for some advice on which one to choose.
Basically, I 'm looking for a handgun that will provide me with an entry to IDPA shoots, reliable and one that I wont want to trade in as soon as I get it. Additionally availability of spares, number of dealers etc is also important.
I haven't shot either so at present this is a choice based as much on website info as it is on aesthetics. Personally I like the look of the Walther and as both guns are out of the same stable, as it were, I'm guessing both will be good. But let me know if you think these are horrendous choices.
Cheers

Re: SMITH AND WESSON M&P OR WALTHER P99 .40S&W
Howzit mate,
I don't know jack about the Walther, but the M&P is gtg. (I am biased)
I don't have a M&P in 40 (yet), but I have one in 9mmP and .45 ACP - if you are in the Pretoria area you are more than welcome to have a couple of shots with each. I will also let you shoot a couple of rounds with my G17 as comparison.

I wouldn't touch the Walther.
Look at a GLOCK.

Of the two mentioned, M&P hands down.

If its about bragging rights.. the Glock wins hands down...
If its about modesty in the face of adversity.. the M&P wins hands down..
If its about followers.. its the Glock..
If its about closest to a 1911, its the M&P
if its up to me.. It would be the M&P , with and Apex trigger kit
If it had to be the glock? I would swop it for a gun with a better trigger..

Re: SMITH AND WESSON M&P OR WALTHER P99 .40S&W
Howzit Socrates, I'm in Cape Town, I've added my profile info, so sadly I can't take up your offer, but if ever you're down here let me know.
Gentlemen thanks for the advice, looks like it's either the M&P or Glock, so how much should either the Glock or M&P cost? and Gidsie how much is the Apex trigger kit and what does it do? (in langauge that a simpleton can comprehend, please).
Thanks again.

Re: SMITH AND WESSON M&P OR WALTHER P99 .40S&W
Scouser, hang on a bit. Shortly there should be a shop down here stocking both the Glock and M&P.
You really should handle both side by side and that should help you make up your mind. Early this year the S&W importer {Silver Bullet} was down here and I had the opportunity to handle the M&P and Glock.
I am now the proud owner of a M&P45 with the Appex trigger kit upgrade thanks to Khumba on here

Thanks Arnold, I'll do just that, I assume that the likes of Suburban Guns/Rosenthals etc will stock both? Anyone else you can recommend?
Thanks
