Re: Range officer course
The big question in my mind why you would want to spend thousands of Rands on a course of this nature if you can do it for free through your relevant sporting association. In my opinion as a past SAIRO&I member, the courses offered by the Associations are of the highset standard an verry little else may be needed.I would agree that the course you are referring to is good to do but you will have to look at your requirements. If you are looking for a generic safety course to teach yourself good safety practices the SASSETA course would be fine. You might even get sporting organisations that will give you credit for it. I would check with the sporting organisations you intend to join before going that route.

Re: Range officer course
The generic Range Officer U/S will set you ack +-R850.00. Each "action" shooting association will require you to attend it's own in house specific RO or SO course. It goes about the rules and regs of each shooting sport and the specific do's and don'ts of each sport.
SADPA does not have a SO course scheduled at the moment, if we have enough members that require an SO course I will present one in the new year.He is best who is trained in the severest school! Fear no man.

Re: Range officer course
Dont know if they are vaak, think they just want to do what is the best for their club as I understand.
The app must be presented to the commitee first and then they will decide I think or so I was informed. Havent heard anything back from them. The members must all be on holiday!!!!"Appels en dit."

Re: Range officer course
Vaak or not, we need more SO's to share the load on the ranges!!!!! I becomes a bit tiresome to SO continuously at all shoots you attend through the year....
Big benefit for an SO however is the learning curve to actively "learn" from the shooters doing their stuff being right up there with them. HellOfA risk at times too, but the + outweighs the - in my view.

Re: Range officer course
As far as I remember the prerequisites for attending the SADPA SO course are:
- Paid up SADPA member
- Must have completed the NSO (SADPA New Shooter Orientation)
It also helps if you know the IDPA rules quite well and have shot a few SADPA clubshoots to understand the practical application of the rules.
Ross or GlockGoblin can chip in if the above is incorrect.
