what brand of knife is at the top of your list?
this is an offshoot from another thread- wanted to ask you guys what, in your personal first-hand experience, are the best brands of knife?
I have mostly used CRKT, Kershaw, and Cold Steel. Been happy with all of them, no major faults, and no major outshinings either. I'm keen to hear others' opinions and experiences.

Re: what brand of knife is at the top of your list?
I tend to not buy because of a name brand... I look more at the particular knifes properties rather and then decide. ..for instance I've seen some pretty decent knives produced by "cheap" brands like D.O.W
..but that said, I am quite happy with my SOG seal pup at the moment.

Re: what brand of knife is at the top of your list?
This is like asking "Which is better, a Glock, an M&P, or a USP?"
I think at the end of the day it comes down to what you are looking for in a knife, your budget, and what you intend to use it for.
That being said, and with my extremely little knife knowledge, I would likely settle for any SOG, Cold Steel, Kershaw, or Spyderco. I'm sure the other "name brands" are just as good, and as pointed out, some of the cheaper blades are good too, but these are the ones that appeal to me, and that I feel comfortable in buying.
As it is my next buy will likely be a Cold Steel Safe Maker II to attach to the inside of my pocket.

I think once you head into the custom knife space the sky is the limit, so perhaps it might be better to confine this thread to production knives. You also don't want to become bogged down in debates like "which steel is the best steel?" or "is carbon fibre better than kraton as a handle material?". Which kinda leaves us talking about what our personal favourites are regardless of specifics.......
I love my Chris Reeves knives - both fixed and folding;
I really like Mission knives;
I dig a lot of the Extrema Ratio line;
I love Spyderco, Benchmade and Zero Tolerance;
and I think Esee/Rat knives rock.
and I would love to try out a geniune Randal knife, a Strider folder and a Bark River....

Hey - I missed one. I really really like Emerson's too. I've had a few of those over the years, and I have hung onto my all time favourite, the CQC-15 in stonewashed blade. I know people have mixed reactions to Emerson but I have always been impressed by Ernest Emerson's knives.

CRKT for me, affordable and quaity, but my favourite is a knife that was made for me on request which I designed, then asked the knife maker to make it for me.

Cool man, looking forward to seeing them. In the interest of not "polluting" this thread any further with off-topic posts, might I suggest you post them here:

Thanks
