    Province: Gauteng
    Firearm: 12GA Benelli M2 SP
    Application type: Section 16
Submitted to DFO: 18 October 2018
Attention at DFO: 18 October 2018
    Refusal: 04 March 2019
Reason: Preliminary Refused - Need to wait for a letter.

Is it a costly affair to have this appealed?
What would be the next step after receiving the letter?

    Thank You.

An Attorney will look at your motivation and if it was solid, will draft an appeal and hand to the appeals board.
    Depending whom you use, R1500-R2500.

    Preliminary refused or refused?

I had an app go from Preliminary refused to approved 3 days later... And know of someone who had the opposite (preliminary approved to refused 2 days later)

Also, re the appeal... An attorney is best, but you could do it yourself as well. Costs nothing beside courier fees to pretoria (or an email if you chose to do it that way)

Thanks guys, I'm pretty sure I've got a solid motivation. Went through my motivation again a few weeks ago when the whole semi auto refusals started to happen. Didn't count all my pages but was a stack of paperwork covering all bases.

Will see what their reason is for refusal. Hope also it will go from preliminary refused to approved but what would be the odds with these guys?

Bought this Shotgun almost a year ago, then to jump through all the hoops like competency training apply for competency then wait for approval, get dedicated status (Natshoot), weapon not registered on dealer stock, waiting. Apply for licence, more waiting.

    Firearm : CZ Scorpion
    Section : 16
    Endorsements : SADPA and NHSA
Application handed in (captured same day) : 14th January 2019
    Application refused : 06th May 2019.
    Refusal reason : TBC.
    Appeal will be done.
Side note : as I recently had a semi auto shotgun refused, I had GOSA prepare the motivation for this application (my CZ scorpion)
I also handed in a section 21 application for this firearm, the application was refused 2days before the requested date.

Gosa will cost 1500 R for an appeal. Known legal practices refuse to give you a proper quote instead give you a ballpark figure starting at +8000 R. Not sure how the difference is made up.
