Custom Winchester 1200/1300 Single Point Sling Adaptor
As there are no commercially available single point adapter plates available for the Defender I decided to make one. I put this little thread together as it may be interesting to some of you.
I made a single point adaptor for my shotgun – there are none available commercially – thought I would show you.
Adapter starts its life out like this, 4mm thick 304 Stainless Steel :
Attachment 4177
It is then heated up with an Oxy-Accetelyn blow torch until red hot in order to do the required bending:
Attachment 4178
This was bent by means of trial and error until I got the angle right. Bent the first one the wrong way around so it ended up a left hand adaptor…had to start again.
· After this it needs to be flattened and squared up with a file removing all high edges and tool marks from bending, constantly checking it against the receiver and butt stock to make sure it’s a snug fit.
· The hole is milled in to accommodate fitment between receiver and butt stock
· Once this is done it is fitted and tightened up, the high spots (and believe me there were many) are marked off. Its then removed and ground to get the shape right to suit the receiver and stock. Refitted and marked again, ground again and and and until its right.
· The edges were dressed with a file, sand paper and emery paper to get all the sharp edges off,
· Sling clip loop was rounded so as not to damage the clip
· Adapter was then polished and fitted.
This is how it turned out: (Please excuse the state of my shotty – she goes in for surface treatment next week)
Attachment 4179
Sling fitted:
Attachment 4180
How she carries & The End Result:
Attachment 4181
And that’s that. All in all took about a week to manufacture from receipt of material to end result, final grinding and fitment took the longest, obviously this was worked for 30 minutes to +- an hour each day as I have a day job.
I will now put it through its paces to make sure the thickness material selected is up to the job. I am confident it will not let me down.
No Winchester shotguns were injured during the making of this adapter plate :)
I am able to manufacture these if anyone is interested, Patent Pending, obviously there will be a charge involved as it is a rather lot of work. I would prefer having the shotgun for final fitment but i know that isnt always possible.
I am also making a bolt on adaptor to mount my torch and a front mount sling adaptor…will put that up later if anyone is interested.

Outstanding.
I'm glad to see the innovative spirit is not dead in SA.
I would certainly be interested in a Scatter Gun Technologies style left side front sling adapter, one that is secured by the magazine cap - is that what you envisage?Cattle die, kindred die, every man is mortal:

THE PROJECT IS FINALLY COMPLETE
Ok, so continuing this a little - here is an update of the shotgun project.
Before images: stripped her down completely - buffed all the marks out of the barrel and mag tube and sanded out the deep scratches on the aluminium receiver.
Images visible here:
After
Images: Had her completely anodised and guncoated in Matt Black
Changes Made:
- Custom made rear single point sling adaptor
- custom made torch mount
- fitment of LED Lensor L7
- custom made front sling mount
- custom made fibre optic front sight mount
- fitment of red fibre optic front sight
- fitment of 6 shell side saddle (the only thing i dont like about this is that it completely covers the serial number!!)
Images visible here:
I am very happy with how it turned out and what makes it even better is that I did it all myself.
