    Big Bore is only when you show the bullet/cartridge to someone and they go: "$#%$#... WOW!"

    The British standard is as follows:
    Small bore = <.323 Dia
    Medium = .323 to .400
    Big = >.400

    I'm with BigT and Adoons.

    Big bore = both the caliber and the bullet weight start with at least a "4". And that would be four hundred grains, not forty, meneer verstaan-my-verkeerd.

    At least my 416 Rigby with a 410gr bullet qualifies, but only just.. sorry 375 fans. You're not big bore league.

    I reckon my 375 must be big bore. My shoulder can only do about 3 shots before i put it away and then rather play something smaller like my 303, or "windbuks" :p

    I do not think recoil is a factor as there are medium bores that can kick quite lekker as well. To be honest I would say .375 and up.

    Lets simplify it.

    1) If it is used to hunt the Big 5 and;
    2) The cartridge fills your hand and;
    3) It makes your eyes water after the 2nd shot

    it is a Big Bore.
