    Talking a Tracer for Jim

    Smyth :-}
Jim agreed to trade with me and this is what i [finally] made for him.
i'll post pics of what i got from Jim after he gets his blade [he sorted his end some time back].
    Large Tracer specs -
6 mm Bohler N690 hardened to 59/60 HRC.
12 in oal with a 6.5 in blade.
contoured linen micarta scales on a tapered tang.
    hand-rubbed finish.
hand-filed serrations [cleaned up with a dremel].
stainless pins and tubing [i tried to polish the id of the tubes]
i made a leather sheath but i forgot to take pics.again.

    thanks for looking.

Hey man, good looking knife, I might be posting this post x2, sorry if there's a duplicate.

Can u explain the different cutting surfaces and uses of the knife, will this be a working klnife or mainly for show purposes?

    Thanks,

    thanks Beast,Pivo.
my Tracer is based on Dave Beck's WSK [wilderness survival knife].
the top edged is serrated for cutting stiff, fibrous materials.i also do a version with milled teeth for notching, for trap making.i have never used it for this, but it's a half-way decent saw.too few teeth to be effective as a saw.
the "recurve" edge can be used as a draw knife [with a the point stuck into a piece of wood for use as a handle].
the "belly edge" can be used for chopping.
slicing with the blade is not hindered by the dramatic change in edge profiles,i does not snag, but binds a bit and when a little more force is applied makes a devestating cut.if used in a slashing movement it's extremely effective.
i have tested the prototype Tracer a few years back.i sold it so i cannot redo these tasks.

here's some history of the WSK courtesy of Dave Beck : Tom Brown did not design the WSK,but approached Dave with a drawing of a knife he called the "medicine knife".Dave made a few changes to the design and called it the WSK.Tom Brown patented the name "Tracker" after the movie "The Hunted" was released.TOPS' version is similar to the WSK but is not the same.
