HS 38 S - Any info?
Hi there,
Does anyone have any information on the subject revolver?
Its a .38 special, made in West Germany. I cannot seem to find a lot of info on it. I am trying to upload a picture, but the frikkin' upload manager does not want to let me! If you google it, you'll see what it looks like.
Quality, durability, etc?

Re: HS 38 S - Any info?
HS stands for Herbert Schmidt - the company that produced the revolver. Usually see it in SA branded or sold as the "Luger .38 Spl" revolver and are most commonly found with a 3" barrel with a ventilated rib and full underlug.
I have examined about 10+ of these over the years and have yet to find one that was in proper working order. I would stay far away from any of these....
Just my .02c...

Re: HS 38 S - Any info?
Much appreciated.
This is indeed the gun I'm referring to. One was left to me by a deceased relative last week. Not sure yet whether it will be worth licencing or just having it deactivated/destroyed.
What were the issues you experienced, 1911? Anything good old fasioned gun smithing can sort out?

Re: HS 38 S - Any info?
IMHO it would not be advisable to license it. Very poor quality and shoddy workmanship.
Problems most seen were barrels unscrewing, timing issues and barrel shrouds loosening. Most had serious spitting isues as the cyllinders were not properly lining up with the barrel.
The gunsmiths I know would not work on them.
Sorry for the bad news, but licences are too valuable these days to waste on an inferior product.
