Class action law suit: Private Citizens vs. SAPS/CFR
Dear all
With reference to the previous thread (http://www.gunsite.co.za/forums/showthread.php?12907-Class-action-law-suit-registration-Private-Citizens-vs.-SAPS) we have decided to restart here to make it easier for the new users to get the necessary information.
Nature of the initiative
We, both as existing and future firearm owners and enthusiasts, have decided that enough is enough and it is time to stand up for our rights. We are sick and tired of poor service delivery.
The difficulty and frustration of obtaining or renewing firearm licences in South Africa is well-known and we believe it is just not right. After discussions amongst ourselves we have approached a legal firm with experience in class action law suits and they have agreed to help us in formulating a case.
At present we need to gauge the support and extent of the problem in order to plan our strategy and obtain cost estimates.
Costs
We are in the process of finalising the brief and therefore the resultant costs with the law firm. So in short: we don't know yet.
Registration does NOT mean we will send you a bill. We are merely guaging support for this venture in order to be able to calculate what it will cost us. The more participants we can gather, the less the individual cost will be.
Intentions
It is our intention to challenge the powers that be in court through a class action suit in order to enforce our rights.
While the detailed points and arguments are in the process of being finalised in consultation with the lawyers the aim is to obtain judgement and legal precedent in order to benefit all license applicants and license holders.
Our aim is to force the CFR to finalise our licence applications quicker and more efficiently.
Timeframe
We want to launch the court challenge as soon as possible, but first we will need to organise.
Please take the time to register (as detailed below) if you are interested in joining our fight. Register now and spread the word.
We will keep everybody updated through GunSite and e-mail.
