This was the same type of F.A that went of in one of our meetings at work when it fell out of the holster

Sorry for the late reply, but I only found this thread now.
I own a type 54 Tokarev, can demonstrate that with the hammer dropped with a bullet in the chamber, it actually presses the firing pin onto the primer.

One is taken with the hammer dropped with a bullet in the chamber. The other pic ( the one with the chinese lettering) is taken with the hammer dropped without a bullet in the chamber.

An interesting and tragic article. I own two Norinco (Nork) 1911s. They are very common here, and of recent manufacture. I have yet to hear of any such accident involving any of the Nork handgun types in Canada; and there are a lot of Norks here. The 1911s are very popular as are the SIG clones. The Tokarev clones seem to be catching on as well. However, no such accidental discharges have occurred as a result of being dropped, as far as I know.
