Re: Advice on choosing a pump action
Great stuff - thanks for sharing guys. No problem whatsoever with my 1300 either - just look like getting spare parts is somewhat of a challenge.
On that topic - what spare parts would you recommend keeping in stock for the 1300 - what is most prone to needing replacement etc?Life shouldn't be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving with a well preserved body...

Re: Advice on choosing a pump action
The guys at ARM'S in Waterkloof are my go to guy's for my 1300, recommend you go to them. Correct spares are a problem but they make a plan.
The issues I had that they fixed was a broken extractor, they machined a new one.
Also had the bolt screw that holds the base plate in place shear while shooting slugs - it came loose under recoil - fortunately I knew a good engineering shop. Exctracting that was a mission and drill bits, rather lock tight it in and inspect as part of your maintenance cycles.

Re: Advice on choosing a pump action
in the more budget end of things, a winchester 1300 defender vs a mossberg 500ab. Price would be about the same. Thoughts? I see the winchester getting a lot of love so just wanted to see currently what thoughts are.

Re: Advice on choosing a pump action
Either would work well. I have a Mossberg. The Winchesters however are much smoother and "nicer".
The Mossberg is totally ambidextrious with the safety under your thumb whether you are left or right handed. If that is important.

Re: Advice on choosing a pump action
I've got a Win1300, and I think you get accessories for the Moss500 a bit easier.

Re: Advice on choosing a pump action
Yeah I love my 1300, but man, it's a pain to make up. I've considered selling it a while ago to get something else, maybe something with a shorter barrel, but I just don't know. The 28" barrel is nice for some things, but for others - not so much.
