Default Re: Sierra .308 165 gr. HPBT (Pics included of exit wounds **BLOOD WARNING**)

I have just returned from hunting mt reedbuck in Murraysburg and experienced the same thing. I shot 1 with an 85gr Rhino and it sailed right through - took a while for the animal to go down. My son shot 1 later that day with an 85gr Sierra gameking which is a hpbt like the 165gr Sierra and that went down like a flash. There was less meat damage with the rhino but the sierra meant no followup ??? I would still go with the guides advice and use the VLD/SMK type bullet. The guide works there and should know!

Has anybody used the GameKings in bushveld conditions, with what results confused0083

The reason I'm asking is that Sierra say "GameKing® bullets are designed for hunting at long range"

Kurly - Gamekings work very well but if you are shooting at closer range such as bushveld then go with the flat base Sierra Prohunters - they are awesome! Slow them down for even better results!

    I agree with Khumba.
Headshots are for windgats and result in a lot of misses and woundings (noses, jaws, ears, horns, etc). No matter how good a shot you are, all it takes is a small movement of the head and your perfect kill becomes a wounding.
Use a decent bullet and put the first one in the engine room. If the beast doesn't go down or goes down and gets up then finish it with a head/neck shot.
