Default what carry method and holster are you employing

    Hi guys,

I want to pick your brains here, for the more savvy pistoleers.

I am in the process of securing a holster, and want to get a few more.

As i have been an avid gunner for some time, i have bought and threw away literally a hundred or so holsters of all type, manufacture and material. The story always begins the same and ends the same, this cycle i am wanting to circumvent.

I will begin by telling you guys what i have decided on to begin with, and please then answer with your views and also your own personal carry options, why you chose it and more importantly why u have chosen to keep it.

I have ordered from Lindsay Ross, the model 17 which is an IWB holster which has the belt loop behind the pisol so as not to add to the width of the rig, this is rough side out with the inside being smooth and it employs an open top with a body guard to protect against sweat on the gun and aid in comfort. this is for my Glock 27, i have also made enquiries into the MTAC Minataur with the adjustable cant for my rather fat HK USPc in 45ACP. Please advise of any other options out there, in case you guys are wondering i do like IWB carry as opposed to out the pants, do not like paddle designs and am weary of no name brands. I have a number of pistols that i will enjoy carrying and want decent holsters for all.

I personally prefer behind the hip carry but am not against appendix carry strong side of course. Not interested in shoulder carry (Don Johnson) or SOB, cross draw or anything like that, what holsters do you guys recommend and why, as any gun lover will testify, that SA has a real crap choice of holsters, Ross Studios aside and i believe Geoff Carter, and one or two others i may be missing, Lidsay has told me that he can also custom make a holster to a design i like or have seen, i believe he is a master leather smith, and i plan to put him to good work if he shall allow it.

    Opinions and recommendations please chaps....

Holsters are a personal preference and I am like you and have bought and thrown away alot. I have ordered the Raven holster, I have two mates in The US and Iraq that swear its just so great. At the moment I am running a CQC holster. I have it on my belt, the only reason is i am so use to it and carry it the same for work and private.

Of the choice that aren't going to take six months to get to you.

Either the MTAC or one of Geoffs Multi Carries should do the trick. Don't forget it's a system and a decent belt is a necessary addition.

Otherwise Milt Sparks has a superlative reputation and a price to match. You will be able to next order from them on the 1st of May and should have your holster by the end of the year.

I carry geofs multi carry holsters.I have a fairly difficult pistol to find a holster for (old syle smith pistol ).I find his riggs cofotable and safe.
During the world cup I worked with a small security detail and carried a pistol and two mag pouches all day.The biggest complement I got for Geofs rigg was that non of the overseas P.O.s New I was carrying untill the last day.Only because I had to change my jacket and they saw my rig with out a cover garment.

In terms of IWB holsters, IMHO the MTAC is exceptional. Furthermore, the holster gets alot more comfortable after a couple weeks use as it moulds to the contours of your body. Strongly recommended. As you probably know, they're available from Khumba.

I've seen one of Geoff Carters multi carry holsters and it looked very good. I have his paddle holster and it is very well made. Obviously comfort is not and issue as it sits outside the waistband. And they're available exclusively from Geoff.

Geoffs multi carry is what I use strongside. Its too hard for me to have it inside my pants. I carry it between my belt and waistband of trousers. Concealability is not a too big factor for me. For better concealement, I bet a paddle holster would be better.

Adoons, try fiddling around with is a bit altering the height and cant and its position on your hip. My previous holster was only comfortable and relatively concealed at around 3 :15 if your belly button is 12:00. My Carter is not at all comfortable there but at around 4:00 canted slightly forward it is so comfortable, I sometimes touch it just to re assure myself that I didnt leave it at home. It also disappears completely under a shirt, tucked or untucked.

A paddle holster won't be as concealable as a properly designed belt holster. The nature of its design makes a paddle inferior for everything except easy on and off.
