Re: Snake Shot for 9mm Short
I understand what he is trying to convey, I just don't believe it's a problem at any "grave" level in South Africa.

Re: Snake Shot for 9mm Short
I meant that it was a potential threat equal to the other world wide irreversible problems caused by the release of exotic animals. The irreversible consequences being very grave indeed to our indigenous species. But it was a grave mistake to put that out there, not thinking that there would not be some one out there who would overlook the clear and obvious message in favor of pointing a perhaps less than perfect choice of wording.
Done - outa here on this.

Re: Snake Shot for 9mm Short
Ok - since it does not seem like we trying to make arse's of each other let me say my come from direction.
I occasionally work with the PE Museum Snake park( a lot lees now than years back). In a recent evening talk, the subject came up of the what was a "never" and has become a once twice a year matter - the release of unwanted pet snakes by pet owners. Occasionally a call is put out for a snake in a complex/ town house area. When it is caught it turns out to be a Corn Snake or Rat Snake, fine - one snake. Now lets say that a family goes on holiday - last hour before leaving," Dad what about my snakes ?" - Shit in the holiday planning we forgot - what now, Gran will not look after them. So - "lets set them free ! " all 8 of my Corn Snakes. " Do not worry son, they can survive on their own", - and that they do, especially in the Natal wonder climate. We now have a viable breeding colony that will become a serious invader species in a matter of a few years. It has not happened yet - it "simply has not happened yet" . - Not - "it is not a concern". It will happen, its just a numbers game and matter of timeo. Unless you believe we are magically protected for what ever reason, it is just a matter of time.
30 years ago the small house Gecko ( I forget its name now - not the Tropical House Gecko)) was a "wow" to me - we traveled to Durban and they were every where, amazing as a child these lizards. You did not get them in the east cape at all - ever. 1995/6 I noticed them in the PE harbor, caused a stir and i caught two and let them go in my yard.Later they were reported in caravan parks. Today there is not a place in PE that does not have small House Geckos and many persons do not know of a PE with out them. They have recently been declared invader reptiles in the America's.
Now explain why you believe the the concern is not worthy of any mention, simply because it is still in the making.
Or - did you just call me out on the use of a word, if so ????????????? -was it worth it, what was achieved by doing so.

Clearly you're missing what I'm saying. I'm not going to repeat myself. You have a great Monday.

Chill guys!
Lots more info on what I was wondering about, thanks.
I saw a program a while back on National Pornographic about pet African Rock Pythons being released into the Florida Everglades and the havoc they are wreaking on the indigenous ecosystem.

I don't think our exotic pet trade is at the stage where it poses a threat but we certainly don't want to see a situation like Florida's. Just to clarify, I was actually asking about a captured indigenous snake being released away from human settlement but I understand the side-track
