44 Mag ammunition - NGA?
Hi all,
I have got my ruger redhalwk 44 mag 7.5' after waiting 2 years for the licence. Now i want to buy some ammo for on the range and self defense. I see i can get NGA reloads for around R200/50 for the range are these ok?
1. Is it safe to use NGA reloads for range shooting?
2. What do i buy for self defense?
Regards
Nick

Re: 44 Mag ammunition - NGA?
NGA had some issues, blew a few glocks, but have since pulled up their socks. Just see if the batch is recently made, ask the dealer when he got the ammo in.
in terms of SD ammo; PMP make a good HP, but only ever used it for hunting Bushpigs and warthogs out of a LLama44 Magnum, 8" Mag-na-Ported Barrel. Never had a problem and when bullets were recovered they were intact (never bothered to weigh any so cant tell what weight retention was). I'm sure the other members will be able to tell which dealer has what.
Something to consider with the 44 Mag is OVER penetration and where that bullet will land in a Self Defence situation. Advise guys of Gunsite?

Re: 44 Mag ammunition - NGA?
Honestly, considering the issue with licensing and the hassle of replacing a damaged gun I would steer clear of any ammo that has a suspect reputation. The only ammo that ever goes into my guns is new factory ammo or my own reloads. You waited two years for the license. Is it worth the risk?

Re: 44 Mag ammunition - NGA?
For SD , see if you can find .44 special factory ammo.
The redhawk is built like a brick crap-house, you can use any reloaded ammo. Take care in case of a squib.
