Permissible Firearms and Licensing thereof

My understanding of the FCA.

My armoury is, for which I have the required compentency's;

Section 13
1x 9mm SD Pistol

Section 15
1x 30-06 Hunting Rifle
1x 6.5 x 55mm Hunting Rifle
1x .22 Hunting Rifle

Section 16
1x 12 Bore O/U
1x .375 Hunting Rifle

1. From what I understand the Section 13 and Section 15 firearms require no additional qualification and form part of the basic allotment of 4 firearms for any individual. In my case one for self-defense and the balance of three under Occasional Hunter or Sports Shooter. Am I missing anything?

2. In order to acquire the additional hunting rifles I needed to apply under Section 16 - Dedicated Hunter.

So far so good.

My Dad's .357 Revolver which was apparently lost to me in the estate has suddenly become available, so I wish to license this to my name.

I really don't want to be registering under a different section. Can I get the .357 through under Section 16?

I had no idea that JD Jones made rollies. I've shot his .375 JDJ Thompson Contender and would love to try it in in revolver form. Ok, now that I've got that dad joke out of the way.

Assuming you don't have dedicated sports shooting status I think the easiest would be to motivate for handgun hunting under you dedicated hunter status.

My wife and I both got .357 magnum revolvers licensed under S16 Dedicated Hunting. Motivation can be hunting if the barrel is 100mm or longer or use for coup de grace ​purposes. You should not have a problem.

And just in case you want a .375 revolver, here is one chambered for the .375 Winchester.

Motivating a 357Mag for hunting (longer barrel) or administering a finishing shot (shorter barrel) should not be too hard.

It is a S&W Model 28 - Highway Patrolman with a 6" barrel.

Will be applying under Section 16 the minute the revolver appears in stock at Overberg Guns and Ammo.

If I can get to shoot it as well as my Dad did, I will be a very happy man.
