Re: Competency certificates: Waiting time
Final Update... See details below.
Renewal of competency for handgun, manually operated rifle & shotgun
DFO: Brooklyn, Pretoria, Gauteng
Submitted application to DFO: 08 Aug 2019
Receiving attention from DFO: 08 Aug 2019 (sms received)
At CFR: ???
At CRC: 17 Sept 2019 (heard this during TC)
In consideration: 04 Nov 2019 (was told that this part of the process can take 5-6 weeks)
Approved: 19 December 2019 (informed by sms)
Card Printed: ???
Card Collected: 11/02/2020
I really cannot understand why a simple renewal also falls into the same crazy-long waiting periods...
... And then the printing of the card at the Govt. Printers then took from 19/12 until this week (therefore a period of almost 8 weeks.... (yes, you read that right, EIGHT WEEKS), to print and get to the DFO and a total time of 6 months (yes, SIX MONTHS) from start to finish of the process.

Re: Competency certificates: Waiting time
[QUOTE=shauncraill;1351229] Yup, same here up in GP... 2 months to print the card and a total of 6 months from start to finish, and this was for a simple renewal of my Competency!
I suspect that this is a deliberate ploy to slow things down and, IMHO, with the (hoped-for) intention that people then don't renew their licences in time.

Submitted application to DFO : 19 August 2019
Receiving attention from DFO : 22 AUgust 2019
At CFR : ?

Refused : 12 Dec 2019
On 23 Dec 209 went to my DFO for the refusal letter, they refused me as I did not attach my trade test result...... At this point I realised that they processed my application as a competency to do work as a Gunsmith and not as a competancy for a presonal firearm.
Submmitted new application at DFO on 11 Feb 2020
Receiving attention at DFO : 17 Feb 2020
