Re: Competency certificates: Waiting time
Your gunshop dont know what they are talking about.
A comp is to show yoy are competent to own a FA. So why would the give you a license witout a comp, even more so a S21 as you need to proof why you need the FA immediately.

Re: Competency certificates: Waiting time
Both my Son and I applied for handgun competency in Aug 2011 and they were approved mid Dec 2011 = 4 months. Surprised and pleased. Card still to come.

Re: Competency certificates: Waiting time
The competency certificate is no longer a card - just a printout that is stamped by the station. They can do it for you at the station. I went to get mine a few weeks ago and they printed it out for me as I waited.

Re: Competency certificates: Waiting time
put my competency application in on the 20th of July 2011, got 2 sms's within 2 weeks, then nothing. just foned CFR now (22nd Jan 2012) and found out it was approved sometime in December! very excited, but also annoyed at the lack of notification. so yeah, about 5 months.
will be visiting my DFO tomorrow, and putting in my license app ASAP

Re: Competency certificates: Waiting time
I just got word that my competencies were approved.
Handed in on 09/12/2011 (Handgun, Shotgun, Manually Operated Rifle, Selfloading Rifle)
Approved on 16/01/2012
I waited 30 business days, 45 days in total. It would have been less had they notified me of the outcome...
I am very excited!

Re: Competency certificates: Waiting time
picked up my competency at around 10am today, a stamped printout.
was approved on the 8th of december 2011, and noone bothered to notify me, so the moral of the story is keep phoning the CFR regularly
