Re: .45 ACP Test Load results
Hehehehe, so you would concur then, that the way to prevent setback, apart from sorting any mechanical /feeding problem would be to apply some crimp?

Re: .45 ACP Test Load results
Hi, Bushboy
Thanks for all your input on this, much appreciated.
Hi, Paul
Thanks for the tips. I make certain that the cartridge case goes in 1,62mm into the expander die, as suggested in the Lyman handbook, and the Lee die is pretty awesome. The cases were once fired from brand new, as I bought them. Could it be that I am belling too much?

Re: .45 ACP Test Load results
Hi there, I was born Afrikaans and only talk English for self defense so please excuse the grammar and spelling that the spell checker does not pick up!
I have been reloading .45 for over 20 years and never had any issues until about a year ago I notice the setback as you described but much more prominent to the extend that the bullet was pushed right up to where the power would allow it into the case.
I first replaced all my magazines but this did not solve the problem, I then started using a Lee Bullet Sizing die to ensure consistency in my reloaded bullets, this minimized stoppages but did not resolve the setback issue.
I then started crimping my rounds and after I crimped it with my Lee taper die I also use a RCBS taper die to do the final taper crimp of the bullet, since I have done this the setback problem stopped.
Regards

[QUOTE=Paul;186604]b) If your brass is so badly cracked that it's not possible to hold the bullet in once crimped it's probably time start thinking about brazing the cracks.

Rolling on the floor, LMAO! A question: do you use a nitrogen flame so that you do not heat the case up too much and ruin the annealing?
Seriously, though. Can you recommend a brand of "proper" taper crimp die?

Re: .45 ACP Test Load results
I posted this link the other day in the reloading forum. It goes to the CZ Forums. If you scroll down you will see a 6 part series on reloading information that, while primarily about reloading 9mm, is very informative, It is a compilation of experience from many different reloaders over several years.
One thing mentioned in it is the fact that PMP brass is on the soft side and does not hold neck tension as long as other cases, such as Starline. Norma, etc. I can't say as I have never used PMP cases, but he also mentions Remington being soft, and I CAN verify that from personal experience with .45. It is also thinner. Back in the day, I would seperate out Remington cases and use them only for cast bullet loads. All jacketed stuff went in other brass.

Re: .45 ACP Test Load results
Thanks for this. I am going to start reloading 45 ACP myself (having only reloaded 9mm before), and will find this useful.
