Default best value for money Assault rifle

    Hi guys
I am looking for some opions.
I am looking for a value for money hard working, reliable assault rifle / carbine that can take the elements Africa (dust, rain and sand).
It should also be able to fire a 1.5 inch grouping at 100m.

What suggestions do you guys have.

From a newbie to a newbie, go to introductions first. Then ask questions.

    Hi Steve
Please post an intro. First off, you're probably looking for a semi-auto rifle. Assault rifles are full-auto mil-spec.
Your best bet for accuracy is probably going to be a FAL, check out Khumba's range of DS-ARMS FAL's.

Firstly "assault" rifles are auto by definition.

To summarise your requirements: 1)super reliable, 2)super durable 3)1.5 MOA accurate and 4)Cheap.

Nothing that shoots into 1.5 MOA and is self loading is going to be cheap.

Very few SLRs will give you that sort of accuracy any way.

FALs are at best, generally 4MOA guns, so is the R series. Some can do better but generally thats what you will get.

What do you want it for?

In semi-auto we can give you 1/2MOA in 308 with Les Baer and some others and 1/2MOA in 223 with Les Baer and Schmeisser. These rifles are not rifles you run around with due to weight.

As SSP said the FAL is not the most accurate but 1MOA can be attained with DSA SA58 SPR.

All of them are expensive R30K+ and the DSA SPR at around R50K

The closest you will get to 1.5MOA in a fairly affordable light weight rifle that may be be available for commercial purchase imo is a Direct Impingement AR platform rifle with a free float handguard. The Schmeissers will do it and some others.

What Khumba said...JP does a 1MOA AR (rated as a competition weapon) at $1300 USD & then good luck with getting it into RSA...

Let me know when you find the answer, because I'm aslo a difficult customer to please. I once asked the guy at the nursery for advice. I wanted to plant a tree near the pool - something that doesn't need a lot of water and that won't lose too many leaves...

His answer was: You need an umbrella.

You can please some of the people some of the time.

I think this question is best phrased:
    What ammo is avaliable?
Once that question is sorted then you turn ask about mags/support/spares etc.

Somehow it always seems to lead to 5.56 & the LM series.

I would love the 7.62x39 however
Recent studies show that 1 out of every 3 liberals are just as dumb as the other 2

With 5,56 I can agree but with the LM series not...

Imo the LM is not freely available, not the best value for money necessarily (they have become expensive) and not the most accurate.
