Re: license applications
Just checked on mine. Apparently the SD reached Pretoria 29 November, yet the sec21 is still sitting with KZN provincial. So much for sec21. Hope I get approved soon.

Delays at DFO
QUOTE=uBestRi;356243]Ok, so I just called again and its still not there.
Then I called the police station and I politely asked how long it usually takes them to get the apps through...
The response I got was "we have 6 weeks to get them through"...........
Now apart from the fact that it seems like a long time, what the heck do they need 6 weeks for?
I took them originals and certified copies of everything, I paid, I did fingerprints, I even had all 3 of my references come and meet me there in person on the day I handed in my application to chat to the DFO....
***Sigh***
Perhaps I should offer to drive it through for them.[/QUOTE]
Apparently they have 21 days(don't know if it's 21 working days) to send it to CFR which is a very long time because once its in Pretoria, they capture it quick and from what I see here on gunsite its approved in a week or two in Pretoria.
My local SAPS to the DFO at a major SAPS 20km away
Took 3 weeks. Then from there to KZN provincial then Pretoria took a week.
So yes if the SAPS here can do their jobs then
You can get a licence in under a month.
What takes the cake is that i also applied for a Sec21 thinking that may come faster. Apparently it still with KZN provincial and still has to reach CFR.
Going to start phoning daily now.

I just called again, and it's still not there.
This is really pathetic; I can call the DFO at the station, but I'm going to get the same crap attitude and answer.
Can't they just put applications in a mail bag and send them thru on a weekly basis?

It's been 3 weeks, it's probably within what they are allowed, but it just doesn't make sense.

Re: license applications
The SAP350(a) issue has still not been resolved! I got a .38Spl snub from a friend that he bought from Classic Arms some time ago. He gave me the licence application papers, and I went to submit it this morning.
They refused to accept it, saying it will be sent back due to the 350(a) not being attached. I tried explaining to him that the SAPS 271 already contains a section marked 350(a). He then told me that there was a dealers' meeting and they all know that it must be attached.
Unfortunately the officer's attitude is not conducive for debate (I really tried). Wierdabrug has 3 VERY helpful, friendly and understanding people in the firearms office, and this officer, which does not fit the aforementioned qualities.
So, licence app not submitted. Bugger.

Re: license applications
I was informed at two DFO's by different people at both that the 350(a) is both needed and not needed. So I just got it and handed it in. Rather have it and not need it than need it and not have it, right? :P
