Looks like another busy day on the range. Some nice looking drills there.

    1 October 2011
    07h00

    Weather 10-20 deg. Cold
Wind: Very Strong. (Ripped targets off the wooden target frame)

A few familiar faces gathered at Funky Town.

Exercise 1 was to focus on accuracy and consisted of shooting/attempting 5 shot 1hole groupings in own time.
I guesti-mated most of the groups were within a 76mm group.
Could be better would have been nice to a single hole from 5 shots.
It’s a nice gentle way to warm up ;->

Then it was onto shooting from a vehicle, using a rifle.
Shots were fired from both front passenger & driver side.
The long gun was stores in the passenger foot-well. Chamber empty.

On the signal participant would drive to wards the target & then angle the vehicle to get a clear shot.

It was an interesting exercise & confirmed that maneuvering a long gun in a vehicle is tedious.
Rifle mounts are a good idea.

A roni with a 40s&w combo will get the dust out of your upholstery in no time :->
Thanks to Sean for this exercise.

Next Robert got stuck into us, demonstrating the ASP baton & how to carry it, how to deploy & how to strike with it.

The Robert moved onto folders, demonstrating how to deploy, grip & cut with it.
After a few solo runs, one participant would charge the other who would then attempt to deploy the folder as quickly as possible.
Most of us moved about 10m before we could get the folder out!
    The pressure was on!

Training was extremely realistic and physical. I am pleased to say that no blood was spilt.

We also had to practice blocking blows or strikes to the head with our forearms.
Forearms were quiet sore afterwards, and we were gasping for air, although if the truth be told we are all in a bit more better shape than when last Robert got hold of us in 2010.

2nd last exercise was shooting handgun from long distance.
This had originally scheduled to be done at a steel plate with a cardboard backing to indicate the shots, from 100m

However the wind played havoc with this setup and we shot it from 50 meters.
Box with a 40s&w did the best getting over half his shots on the steel. I could only manage 1 out of 20 shots!

We moved to 25m & things improved dramatically, all of us making the plates chime!
Perhaps it helps if the sights are not obscuring the whole target.

We were meant to check the patterning of our shotties with various types of ammo at various ranges but because of the wind will have to do it another time

Final exercise was moving/shooting/ reloading with a shot gun.
The point was to keep eyes on threat all the time either when moving or reloading.

To end off we had a man vs man shoot with the shotguns
Well done to Sean for being the last man standing!

Next session is scheduled for the 22/23 October. It will be our last qualifier for 2011.

We will be running level 1 qualifier in the morning and then be doing level 2/3 from about 12h00. I need a minimum of 4 blokes to try out for the L2/3 to make it work.

Please confirm with me if you will be doing level 1 or Level 2/3.
It requires a lot of preparation. Email me camouflage762@gunsite.co.za

My thanks to Sean, Robert & Box another great training day.

    Hi Camo,

Do you possibly have confirmation on the date of the ear end shoot yet? Would hate to miss out!

    ---------- Post added at 08:13 ---------- Previous post was at 08:12 ----------

That shoot read "Year end" shoot, otherwise no one is going to show up!

Could also make it a rear end shoot.... should be interesting...... who knows who will pitch up!

Yip it is the 12th will start at 07h30, it is going to be a family day, bring the kids.

Planning it so that we can have competition for the wives & kids , to be followed by a picnic or bring & braai.

We should be finished by 13h00.
