looking to do range shooting as a hobby
hi.
I'm 26y of age, needing any advise on how to get started in doing
range shooting as a hobby and owning a semi-auto rifle, would like to get into doing practical shooting as well, but need a club/range in
East London to store it for me!?
will be applying for my competency in December 2011, hopefully have my firearm licence in 4-5 years as its the first time and have no clue to how long this may take.

Welcomd, search as there is lots of info on license apps as well as what is required in terms of owning a semi auto.
Good luck.

Re: looking to do range shooting as a hobby
Welcome. Introductions go in the Introductions thread, but seeing as I'm feeling particularly gracious today, I'll let that one slide.
As for the shooting thing.. do you have any other competencies or firearms? Like for Handgun or shotgun? If not, I suggest putting the semi on the backburner for a bit and get your handgun competency and ownership sorted out. IMHO you will be better served with a good handgun to build a good foundation as a sport (and all-round competent) shooter.
By all means submit your applicatiion for semi competency, but do it along-side your competency and licence application for handgun.Last edited by cerop; 19-10-2011 at 09:13.

What Cerop said.
Welcome bud!
Licenses seem to be going much quicker than the 4-5 years of a while back.Last edited by JS4; 19-10-2011 at 09:14.

Welcome. I have a friend who got his license in 6 months and it seems that it is going quicker now than when he did his license.

When you go for your proficiency certificate do all 5 in one go. The Law, handgun, shotgun, rifle and semi auto rifle. If everything goes well you will get your competency issued for 4 types of fire arms.
