Default Think I scored a good deal?

    Hi

I recently got a Ruger redhawk .44 7.5" (after 2 years of waiting). I have recently read some stories about redhawk barrels blowing off in the past due to a lubricant issue in the factory. I contacted Ruger and asked them when the problem occured and what serial no. were involved. Their response was that the problem was sorted out early and if my # began with 501 then I would be fine. The problem is that my # begins with 500. I asked Ruger to be more specific and they simply said that I should choose a replacement revolver from their site to a value of $949 and they will replace my current one. Fantastic. My concern was that I had no idea how to get my redhawk back to Ruger. I sent them a mail and the reply was that I can keep my old revolver. Even better. I since found out that my redhawk would have to be destroyed in order to get a replacement firearm and a serial no. swop would have to be done on the new Revolver.

I carry the Redhawk as a back up firearm when doing Big 5 guided walks and am not comfortable carrying a weapon that could posibly fail.

Ruger will be sending me a brand spanking new "Super Blackhawk Hunter" to the SA importer to replace my 30 year old Redhawk. It will then be up to me to do the serial # swop on my license.

PS: THERE WAS ONLY A VERY SMALL BATCH OF REDHAWKS WITH THIS PROBLEM, REDHAWKS REMAIN A INCREADIBLY STRONG REVOLVER. I WAS NOT WILLING TO WAIT FOR A NEW REDHAWK, THERE IS A 2 YEAR BACK LOG.

Did I score? Is it worth the paper work?

Dude... Apply for the new gun as A NEW GUN. Mention the facts in your motivation and keep both.

If necessary, get a collector's permit for the old one.

    Sounds good.

I thought I scored but am so worried about screwing this up some how. I have waited for 2 years just to get the Redhawk, and now I must send it in to be KO'ed. Its heart breaking! I would like the revolver of my choice thou!!

If any of you helpful guys have had experiance with the licensing isues I'm about to undergo, please let me know how it went. I don't want to sit for another 2 years waiting (it would give my thumb a chance to heel after 300+ shots of hot 300grainers :). )

    Thanks guys

    Dylan
