Agree with Dick. Politicians can BS enough to baffle all brains.

    But congrats to Canada.

Does the ANC's Central Committee care how much is wasted? They can always take some more from the hard-working people to finance their ideological nonsense.

If they weren't spending the money on programs to harass law-abiding citizens and infringe their inalienable right to bear arms (which stems from the inalienable right of self-defense/property-defense) they would spend the money on beach-side vacation homes and posh urban penthouses...

Hey that's an idea, I should email some ANC commissar and let him know that they are wasting BILLIONS on gun control, BILLIONS that could go to buying vacation resorts and luxury cars for party elites.

The SA government does reach some goals. The firearm owners are 5 yearly paying the salaries of hundreds unskilled personnel in the CFR, who would otherwise not have had a job or income. By not using clever operators, they need more of them. The same people that did the work before still do, they are now only slowed down by the unskilled personnel.

Our problems is not going away anytime soon, we are just feeding the crocodile.

Canada is not the only country deregulating. My brother tells me that in EU they no longer have to license the muzzle loading, black powder rifles. All he has to do is to present his ID, the credit card and he walks out of the shop with a rifle.
EU is probably one of the most regulated areas in many fields (I am not focusing specifically on firearms). If EU are simplifying/unwinding their bureaucracy, that should be a queue for our regulators.

The long gun registry is on it's way out meaning that the Canadian Goverment will no longer track millions of legally owned firearms. This is great news for all Canadians as the registry has cost two billion dollars and cannot be shown to have saved a single life.

There is going to be a massive buying spree once the registry is gone

The latest news from here is that we are eagerly awaiting the resumption of parliament following the Christmas recess. The end of the long gun registry is an eagerly awaited piece of legislation. Right now, many are figuring on it having the plug pulled in February/March.

In the meantime, there is plenty of last ditch grasping at straws to save it. Including government librarians claiming that the registry must be saved otherwise the government will be violating an archives act. Better yet is the mewling by Wendy and co. that if the registry must go, then at least the government should save the data. Right. We're so gullible as to believe that the "registry" and the "registry data" are two separate entities.

They know full well that the registry is the data, but they won't let that simple truth stand in the way of a good hissy-fit.

And, while we are happy that the registry is living on borrowed time, we are also getting annoyed by the RCMP and their antics. It would appear that, just like a battleship captain who defiantly fires off one last salvo as his ship goes down, the RCMP have begun a last minute effort to try and reclassify or "correct" earlier "misclassification of" certain firearms before the registry goes. In other words, they are trying to get some guns moved to the prohibited list before the registry goes in order to either keep them registered, or take them away from their lawful owners. Considering that some of these guns have been owned without incident for over 20 years, yeah, it's a pretty shameful thing the horse cops are doing.

One last thing. There are even naysayers over here who are doubtful the Conservatives will get rid of the registry. All I can say about that is that I don't think the PM would risk losing a large segment of his support base by reneging on his promise to get rid of the registry. Keeping the registry will not get him any new votes down the road, since registry supporters are statists and socialists anyway. However, failing to do so will cost him dearly in terms of votes and seats.

    Thanks for the update Chuckbuster!

I hope that the matter is less sinister and your parliament represents its consituency interests.

I suspect that the bureaucrats care less about the actual guns and more about saving their well paid jobs. Besides, who will accept a proposition that their office is a waste of tax-funds? They will put up a fight and come up with all sort of nonsense.
