Claw 250gr 308" Bullets.
Anyone have any experience with these?
Particularly in a 300 Win Mag. Awaiting license still, but looking at getting components ready and am thinking of using the 250gr at 2300-2400fps for Bushveld use.
Thanks

If your barrel has a 1 in 10 twist I think you are going to battle to stabilise a bullet of this weight and length. A 180 down to 150gr premium is all you will need to down even Eland. Penetration is what you need to create a damage path through the vital organs and they will give ample.

You could happily shoot elephant all day with that.
With that kind of sectional density, you will find that you will loose very little in trajectory out to 250 and 300 meters.
I am an advocate of slow and heavy bullets so I buy into what you are trying to do.
You will slay anything and meat damage will be minimal.
you just need to make sure it stabilizes.

Re: Claw 250gr 308" Bullets.
Well, if a 30-06 can stabilise a 220gr Spitzer with a 1:10 twist rate then a 300WM should be able to stabilise a 250gr Round nose. What is the configuration of the 250gr Claw. RN or Spitzer?
Sean.Pain is just weakness leaving the body.

I love heavy and slow bullets like this. My BRNO 308 is very happy with a 220gr Woodleigh and my 338 with a 300gr. Give the 250gr a try. Will be an awesome bushveld load.

You won't catch me shooting at an elephant with that, not at a buffalo either.
Sighted two inches high at 100 m it will drop 11" at 250m and 22" at 300m.
Slow and heavy is very good for short range hunting (<200m).
It should be good for everything up to eland.
From what I've heard it does stabilize in a 1 in 10" twist.

Re: Claw 250gr 308" Bullets.
I sincerely think it could be done, I managed to slow down a 190 Gr Claw in my 7mm Rem Mag to 2100 FPS using 40 gr of S335 with dacron to keep the powder against the primer, group size was smaller than an inch over 100 meter with no recoil whatsoever. Got the idea from Koos Barnard in Magnum, where he did the exact exercise with the 7mm. I would thus think that 45 - 50 gr of S335 will do the same for the 250 gr in the 300 Win Mag.
I would like to know whether this can be achieved, because my 300 Win Mag license is awaiting approval.

Re: Claw 250gr 308" Bullets.
Personally I'm intending on using S365 or S385 and just use the starting loads or maybe slightly less for the 220gr loads. My max range with this load will be 100m, with Bushpig on baits being the main quarry, so 2" groups at 100m will be acceptable.
