Ammo availability in SA.
Hey guys.
I'm about to buy AK for my collection. Need to decide on which caliber to buy though. Looking at either 5.45x45 or 5.56x45 or 7.62x39.
I hear different things from different people. So guys that shoot those calibers, please comment on ammo availability in SA.
Thanks.

Re: Ammo availability in SA.
5.56!!!! the 5.45 is unobtanium in SA........ and 7.62 x 39 is also a ballache to get. Stick with NATO calibre ammo in South Africa.

As I thought. Thanks for confirming this. I guess one could always ask a dealer to make order if it's large enough. *shrug*

Re: Ammo availability in SA.
Ammo for the 7.62x39 is available, but is a bit on the expensive side compared to the 5.56 NATO. As for 5.45x39, good luck!!!!!
If you gonna go AK platform, the 7.62x39 is best!!!!
From a practical point of view, the one chambered for 5.56 is the cheapest to shoot.
