Hog, the M3 range (whether LED or not) is good for that. I have the ordinary M3 (thanks Stefan) and it is VERY bright. So bright it actually hurts your eyes when you switch it on after your eyes are used to the darkness.

I concur about the WX. Very nice light and excellent quality. I have been using the WX's predecessor, the XTI Procyon, for a few years and it is still going strong without missing a beat. The XTI has 125 lumens vs the WX 150 lumens but it cost me about half the price of the WX!

I would use the rechargeable for practice and keep the gun stored for defence with fresh CR123 Lithiums.
I assume your cells have a protection circuit in them , this shuts them "OFF" suddenly like that, no warning, and for many reasons.
Get another torch for looking around. Save the fresh CR123's for shooting people.

The WX is my gun light of choice. Light, small, durable, bright, both switches toggle the same way for left and right.
I have no faith in CRC123 batteries (= rechargeable 123 sized batteries).KICK BRASS !!!

Re: Insight Weapon Lights in stock
I bought the CR123 charger and the cells, but the rechargeables give out a to high voltage (IIRC 4 Volt). I don't want to fry my Procyon so I only use new cells. Maybe it's still safe to use and the light will regulate it? The light is still pretty awesome. I keep two spare new cells handy.
