Just to ask if I have a competency card for rifle, shotgun and handgun does that mean I still need to do the handmachine carbine course?

It's debatable, as the older competencies just say 'Rifle'. I shoot with a few people who've successfully applied for semi's with just the rifle comp. However I'd still recommend doing the course, especially if you've not had much experience with semi's, just remember to draw in and tick your own SRL\Carbine block on form 517-a as they only have rifle\SG\HG printed on them.

Also, in some rural areas you'll have small sport shooting clubs that are affiliated to larger hunting associations that can facilitate DSS.

Does anyone know if it's possible to get a Semi Auto Rifle on Dedicated Hunter Status, for the purpose of Anti Poaching work?
My friends are going through the process of finding and licencing some rifles for the anti poaching on their farm, but I would like to get one licenced for myself if it's possible, as I am one of the guys actually doing the patrols.

I doubt that would fly, as it's not animals you'd be hunting. (Poachers are lower than animals in the grand scheme of things). Most likely it would be section 14 (v. difficult to motivate) but as it's on a farm a better bet might be section 20 which is anything other than a prohibited firearm. Problem is that you'd then need competency for business purposes which means you'd need to do a different training course and HMC competency for business purposes I believe is quite hectic from a practical exam point of view.

The farm has Accreditation, so the licencing "shouldn't be a problem", but then I'm restricted to only that farm and not any of the others that might require hepl.
At the moment we are using normal hunting rifles, and would be in big kak if we had contact with the poachers

Let I put it this way to u I stay on a farm my coousin has a registered game n a semi automatic shotgun he himself is a gun dealer as well and he was turned down abt 6 times trying to renew his license the way it currently seems to most semi auto matic rifle/ shotgun owners is that they dnt wana issue out licenses period bt if u are a current license holder there is slight hope for u provided ur letter of motivation is gud enuf to swing the guys head to provide u with the license my cousins took like 4 years n countless rejections before they decided to grant him a renewal on his license bt if u a new applicant for semi automatic I dnt wana b negative bt I doubt u will ever get a license. Only real advice get a couple of motivational letters pref 1 from a lawyer as well n hope for the best
