Default advice on shooting the Z88 (and other beretta 92 clones)

the Z88 is one of my favourite 9mmP for a number of reasons, but its the most difficult for me to transition to shoot accurately.

i would like to hear from those that shoot the Z how you shoot them and how accurate are you with them.

when i switch from any hand gun and go to the Z , i eventually get it right but there is an initial battle.

i dont seem to have that problem going from HK -SIG - GLOCK -CZ - GP35 etc.

i love the feel of the Z ( weight, balance and size etc ) but i can't shoot it as accurately initially as the others.

its a shuffle i have to make with the gun not higher up the web of my hand but more adjusting my hand grip around the but of the Z.

    what is it?

I used to shoot my Z-88 alot, but always found it a bit of a problem if I wanted to draw and fire - sd type drills. Informal "Target shooting" i.e. picking up the pistol from a table etc, not so bad, but it was never felt comfortable in my hand. I replaced the grips with a set of Uncle Mikes, but have the factory grips back on it. My CZ has thin alu grips and is perfect. Glock okay, but use the small insert on my 19 Gen4. I bought the Z at a time when I was very loyal to "South African Steel" and although it is arguably the best looking 9mm (Berreta 92) ever made, but not the most comfortable to shoot. The SP1 is far more comfortable, but not nearly as pretty!

so i am not alone on this ..
funnily not the same issue with my beretta eliteII

is it my grip from the draw or is it the front sight in original set up?

I can reflect on the PT92 which may the same sight as the Z88. It is one of the smallest front sights on a full size 9mmP. KK, my take is the size of the front sight compared to the other pistols you have listed.

I believe the M9 Beretta may be capable of jamming, but I have never experienced such a thing, with well over 2,000 rounds fired. I was firing from a variety of positions, standing, kneeling, prone, in varied conditions (crawling through mud, in a dirty/dusty area, grass in the action of the weapon), and it never failed to function properly.

Heck, that's a week-end here! (and only 'cause we can't afford more!)

I'm not just putting rounds down range for the sake of putting rounds down range. My training is mostly focused on "move and shoot" in a buddy team context.

It does not have the nice grip of a colt or high power and hence does need a bit more bonding.I changed the grips to pachmeyrs and that helped me. However I spend a lot of time with mine and it has become very familiar and pointable. The weight forward slide helps with shot recovery and make no mistake it is can be very accurate and controllable. I have never benched it but head shots on a standard cardboard combat target at 50 metres are no problem. Given its reputation for reliability and personal experience with it I woud trust my life to it. Quite simply it does not jam.

pachy grips made it worse for me.
i friend from the usa gave me new some after market grips that are very slim- these are much better.
i have no doubt about the speed and reliability of shooting it.

what i like to know is how do you guys that shoot the M9 very accurately do it?
do you work harder with it to shoot accurately than other guns?

It shoots a lot smoother and easier than a Glock, and a bit better than an XDM.

It's hard to explain, I normally use a solid two hand grip, lock out my right arm with just a slight bend in the right elbow, I often close my left eye (when doing stationary targets at the range- when doing move/shoot I try to keep both eyes open), and as long as I work the trigger and maintain a workable breathing cycle, it seems to take care of the rest.

I only put about the top half of my finger-tip in the trigger guard and on the trigger/
