    Default Mauser Rifle collectors

Are there any Mauser rifle collectors on this forum?? How available are these old classic Mauser rifles in RSA?
How should a novice go about to acquire a collector`s licences to be able to collect these old rifles?

I have one in my collection. There are lots of different models of the Mauser rifle to collect. Look at the auction from Classic Arms for some really fine collectable guns. They do sometimes Mausers on their list. mine was bought from them. It's a Chillean model, dated 1895 chambered for 7x57 and still in good condition and is still extremely accurate. These old Mauser's are available in RSA, you just have to look for them.

Going the collector route is a good way to start collecting Mausers. Be prepared for a lot of research on each firearm you intend to collect, as the collectors assosiation must approve the gun for collection even before you can apply for the license from CFR. Once you have approval, then the FCR will almost never decline you a collectors license (especially Cat C. Cat B and A is a bit more problematic). You would only need catagory C status (Bolt action + virtually any handguns). Contact your local collector's assosiation to become a member. Alternatively, send me a private mail, and I can get you some further details if you want.

    Gert,
    What Mic said .
I can add that the research into each new aquisition actually adds value to your hobby.
There is of course a wealth of information on the internet, but you absolutely have to have the reference books written by Jon Speed. (available from Zimbi books.)

I would subdivide the concept of Mauser rifles into:
    Military rifles
    Miniature rifles (.22s)
Sporting rifles up to end of WW2.
Sporting rifles after WW2 - the demilitarised Mauser.
Rifles built by others on Mauser actions, and modified Mausers.

I am a member of PAAA, and Mauser rifles is one of my fields of interest.
