Kudu Cow
Hi everyone,
Im finding it hard to enjoy these lovely summer days because I just want the hunting season to start now!!!
I am trying to do some homework on filling up my freezer this year with some good game meat. I am aware that this is a tricky question to ask but how much meat could I expect to get of a mature Kudu cow?
Look forward to the reply's,
Best Regards
Smokepole

Re: Kudu Cow
This is my personal view, cos in the regions of 90 - 150kg, although some guys have claimed kudu cows in the 200kg region,
Dress weight between about 50-60%

Re: Kudu Cow
Think Rick is pretty much on the money and must say I think a Kudu cow is your best rand/kg value for good game meat.
There are cheaper options like BWB for instanse but a Kudu just tastes so much nicer.MOLON LABE

Re: Kudu Cow
Thanks for the info so far, trying to do the maths and make the most out of the hunting season. I should know better than trying to plan to much, usually the total opposite happens... But rather educated yourself as much as possible...
G-force it will be the Greater Kudu that I will be going after, from the homework I have done it is a big antelope than its other family member the Lesser Kudu.
I have also heard a few different opinions regarding the meat from a waterbuck. Been told that as long as the skin doesn't touch the meat when working with the meat it makes very good eating? Whats your opinions and experience with the quality/taste of waterbuck?

Re: Kudu Cow
Little beats Kudu biltong. Everything beats Waterbok biltong.
The surprise of surprises though is Blue Wildebeest. Ugly as sin, but awesome meat.

Re: Kudu Cow
What I have found to work for me is:
I shoot one big (Kudu, BWB etc) and two small (Impala, blesbok etc) and then two pigs + one Impala for salami.
This is pretty much what I chow in a year.
And whenever I get invited for a pig hunt I go shoot for my staff.
Pig hunting ROCKS.MOLON LABE
